The site for this home is located in the foothills above Salt Lake City, with dramatic views of the Wasatch Mountains to the east, and the valley and central city to the south and west. The design for this home explores authenticity in western architecture through materiality, proportion and form. The base of the home extrudes from the site as a textural concrete plinth with a board form concrete finish that incorporates exaggerated joints to create course vertical fins. The street elevation is addressed by a refined elevated form detached from the textural base using a 12” recessed reveal detail that makes the home appear to float above the site. The main level volume is clad with large format limestone panels.
