Sculpting Everday Materials

We at Sparano + Mooney Architecture have been following the work of Tara Donovan for some time. She is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work we saw at the ICA / Boston a few years back. Donovan is using everyday materials such as Scotch tape, Styrofoam cups, and drinking straws to create large scale sculptures that often have a biomorphic quality. Of her work, she says: "It is not like I'm trying to simulate nature. It's more of a mimicking of the way of nature, the way things actually grow." If you also like the way she explores “ordinary” materials, and their form and quality of light……..you may enjoy this video.
