The Roy Campanella Pool and Bathhouse facility, located in Compton, California, is owned and operated by the County of Los Angeles. The existing pool equipment and pool were showing signs of age and deterioration, and required major improvements. Sparano + Mooney Architecture and our team of Los Angeles recreation architects and Los Angeles aquatics designers was commissioned by the County to perform a feasibility study and needs assessment and to present architectural design options for updating the facility.
The scope of services included the removal and replacement of pool decks; the addition of slot/trench drains; new exits from pool deck and lift; the repair of roof structure and steel columns; electrical upgrades; new plumbing fixtures, piping, water heaters and ventilators; renovation of the women’s dressing room; the refurbishment of circulation pump, filter tanks and heater; and providing automatic chemical and make-up water systems.
The scope of services also included the complete renovation of the existing bathhouse including the addition of sinks, toilets, showers and changing areas and ADA-compliant paths of travel to bring the architecture up to code compliance.
