Our studios in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Los Angeles, California, are filled with skilled and dedicated designers committed to realizing sophisticated architecture for our valued clients. A team of experienced architects and technical staff works with a principal to develop projects and deliver them on schedule and within budget. The professional administrative staff supports the team and shares each member’s dedication to exceeding client expectations.
SALT LAKE CITY STUDIO:
Established in 2004, our Salt Lake City studio is designed as an open and engaging workspace, fostering dialogue and experimentation essential to a thoughtful architectural practice. Filled with materials, models and concepts-in-progress, the office reflects our passion for the process of design, from first ideas to final details. Here, open workspaces and informal pin-up walls foster collaboration, allowing ideas to evolve and sharpen through shared exploration.
We work across a wide range of project types throughout the American West. From museums, performing arts centers and higher education buildings to custom modern residences and mountain resort developments, each project is approached skillfully with rigor and care. What unites our diverse portfolio is a deep commitment to design excellence, contextual sensitivity and a belief in architecture’s ability to elevate the human experience.

Located in a vibrant urban district near downtown Los Angeles surrounded by art, culture and the energy of the city, our studio is a space where creativity and collaboration thrive. Our team is united by a belief in the transformative power of design.
For almost three decades we have been engaged in a wide range of meaningful work across Southern California and beyond, including new museum exhibition spaces, park and recreation projects, community centers, nature centers, sports venues and pools and aquatic venues. Whether we’re designing a gallery for an exhibition that reframes the visitor experience, a performing arts venue that amplifies community voice, or a nature center that reconsiders how we build in the urban-wildland interface, we thoughtfully connect architecture to its context and bring rigor, imagination and empathy to each project.

PROFESSIONAL MENTORING
SPARANO + MOONEY ARCHITECTURE fosters a collaborative and inclusive mentoring culture that supports professional development at every career stage. Mentorship occurs both organically within project teams and through a formal program launched in 2024, pairing new employees with mentors during their first year with the practice. This approach emphasizes open dialogue, mutual learning and shared design collaboration, rather than a hierarchical office environment. Our practice trains mentors to be empathetic, culturally aware and supportive, while mentees are encouraged to ask questions and contribute new perspectives to the team and to our work. Structured touch-points, such as quarterly check-ins, informal gatherings and project pin-ups, help maintain meaningful professional development opportunities and mentor/mentee relationships. The firm regularly assesses the program’s impact on engagement, inclusion, retention and leadership development, with a commitment to supporting professional goals and recognizing contributions across the team.
