Studio City Net-Zero Recreation Center

  • ARCHITECTURAL TEAM | John Sparano, Anne Mooney, Ludwing Juarez, Jorge Beltran

In conjunction with the recently renovated soccer and baseball fields of the Sports Center Complex in Boyle Heights, this new gymnasium facility will result in a recreational and architectural landmark for both the immediate neighborhood and the adjacent Salesian High School. Both the architecture and exterior spaces included in this project have a great deal of design and energy savings potential. A successfully executed Sports Center Complex must be welcoming to the nearly 100,000 residents of Boyle Heights, and should enhance and promote student and youth collaboration with the many neighboring schools.

This new facility is not only designed to meet the current needs of the Recreation and Parks Department, but is also aiming to obtain the Living Building Challenge’s definition of a Net Zero Energy building. The project will be innovative, functional, and most importantly, energy-efficient.
