Located adjacent to the Sun Valley Metrolink Station in Los Angeles’ Sun Valley neighborhood (Council District 6), the Sun Valley Metrolink Tiny Home Village is a 208-bed interim housing community developed by the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering to provide emergency shelter and comprehensive support services for individuals experiencing homelessness. Constructed on a portion of the existing Metrolink park-and-ride facility, the project transforms an underutilized transit-adjacent site into a safe, service-rich campus while preserving a portion of the station parking for commuters. As a pre-qualified, on-call consultant with the City, Sparano + Mooney Architecture provided site master planning, site layout, sub-consultant coordination and bridging documents.
The project project includes prefabricated sleeping cabins, repurposed modular hygiene and administrative buildings, case management offices, dining and gathering areas, laundry facilities, pet relief areas, shaded outdoor seating, security infrastructure, accessible pathways, utility improvements, landscaping and on-site parking for staff. Designed to support residents as they transition toward permanent housing, the village provides low-barrier shelter paired with wraparound services, including housing navigation, healthcare referrals, behavioral health resources and employment assistance.

As lead agency, the Bureau of Engineering manages the facility in coordination with multiple City departments. The project reflects the City’s broader strategy of rapidly deploying interim housing solutions on publicly owned land while leveraging modular construction to accelerate delivery and expand access to supportive services for people experiencing homelessness.
