Sundance House will be a flagship venue for the Sundance Film Festival and a year-round headquarters for the Sundance Institute, its artists and its programs. The client’s focus on artists and storytelling drives the project’s aspirations to support artists, connect artists with the community and engage the client with the community.

Sundance House will support the annual Sundance Film Festival each January and provide a year-round home for the organization in Park City. The new 38,000 SF mixed-use arts and cinema building will be located within a 5.25 acre newly-created Park City Arts District developed by Park City, Utah.

The approach to sustainability in this project is to identify best practices and design methods so that the arts complex might benefit from the local climate as much as possible. The client and design team aspire to produce a thoughtful project that will reduce building energy use loads and coordinate with Park City’s current goals to be Net-Zero in new construction.

This project is a collaboration between Sparano + Mooney Architecture and Alejandro Aravena’s socially-motivated, Pritzker Prize-winning firm, ELEMENTAL.
