Anne has over 25 years of experience honing her approach to design excellence in architecture with a body of work focused on elevating the built environment throughout the American West with thoughtful and responsive design for clients and communities. Anne was educated at the University of Utah, and at Columbia University in New York and the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in Los Angeles and Ticino, Switzerland, where she earned a Master of Architecture with Distinction. She co-founded Sparano + Mooney Architecture in 1997 after completing her internship at Eric Owen Moss Architects and now oversees the planning, programming, design and design process management of our firm’s key projects from offices in Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. She also develops, coordinates and leads the practice’s community outreach and fundraising efforts with key stakeholder groups.

Anne has served her profession on the Board of Directors of the Utah Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and as the Co-Chair of the AIA Utah Committee on the Environment (COTE) and the Building Envelope Council (BEC). She has also served the community on a local school board, numerous public art and architect selection committees, and on the Utah State Arts Council Board. Anne is an architectural professor and design critic, training, educating and mentoring emerging architects and design professionals. She has been a committed educator of the next generation of architects, holding an appointment as Professor of Architecture at the University of Utah School of Architecture. Anne is also a frequent lecturer, design critic and architectural juror both in the United States and abroad.

Anne’s award-winning designs have been featured in over 35 national and international publications and exhibitions in the United States, England, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Japan.  She was named the AIA Young Architect of the Year by the American Institute of Architects Western Mountain Region, one of the Top Women in Architecture in 2020 by Mountain Living Magazine and has been awarded the 2021 Silver Medal by the AIA Western Mountain Region, the top honor given to an architect in the region. Her practice has been consistently recognized for design excellence and has received more than 50 design and honor awards, including the 2017 AIA Western Mountain Region Architectural Firm of the Year and the 2013 AIA Utah Architectural Firm of the Year. Anne was elected to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows in 2023. 

Anne comes from a family of aviation professionals (pilots, aircraft mechanics and flight attendants) and learned to fly at a young age. She continues to enjoy traveling adventures around the world that inform and inspire her architecture.
