The George W. Carver Aquatic Center, located in south-central Los Angeles, is owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles. The City commissioned Sparano + Mooney Architecture and our team of Los Angeles recreation architects to perform a feasibility study and needs assessment and to present design options for the architecture of the facility. The scope of services included the removal and replacement of pool gutter and decks. Cost saving studies included options for retaining the pool shell and key structural components of the bathhouse architecture, including the poured-in-place architectural concrete roof. Building renovations included the transformation and updating of the patron experience, the conformance with current accessibility and ADA regulations, the re-programming of pool maintenance and operations, and the incorporation of staff changing areas and family changing rooms. The project was designed to meet the $4.95M budget established by the City.
