Long Beach Crescent is a 40-unit permanent supportive housing community created through the adaptive reuse of a former Motel 6 in Long Beach, California. Developed through California’s Homekey Program, the project transformed an interim housing property into a permanent residential community serving individuals experiencing homelessness. The development includes 39 studio apartments and 1 on-site manager’s unit, providing residents with stable housing and access to comprehensive wraparound supportive services.
The renovation by Sparano + Mooney Architecture modernized the existing motel while creating welcoming indoor and outdoor community spaces that foster resident well-being and long-term stability. Amenities include a community room, outdoor gathering areas with barbecue and dining space, a dog park, bicycle storage, and dedicated offices for case management and supportive services. Residents receive on-site assistance including mental and physical healthcare coordination, employment counseling, educational support, substance use treatment, and other individualized services designed to promote housing stability and self-sufficiency.

Crescent was delivered as part of Los Angeles County’s broader strategy to rapidly expand permanent supportive housing through adaptive reuse, allowing the project to move from construction to occupancy in just over one year. The development was primarily funded through a California Homekey grant administered by the California Department of Housing and Community Development, supplemented by financing and local partnerships supporting the property’s conversion into permanent supportive housing. The project is operated by Linc Housing.
